Gingerbread Houses

May 7, 2015

A few years ago, we added a new family tradition to our Christmas festivities- gingerbread houses and tamales. We get together with Bruce's dad for a yummy tamale dinner and the girls each decorate a gingerbread house. This tradition also includes a stop at Winco to stock up on all kinds of magical candy, just right for decorating our houses. We've been known to spend in the neighborhood of $20 specifically on gingerbread house decor, though a fair amount of that decor gets eaten throughout the process as well Ü As is the norm for photos taken during this time period- they are not good quality, but I'm grateful to have this little visual reminder of the girls masterpieces. They both did a fantastic job of decorating their houses and approximately 30 seconds after declaring them complete, the gingerbread house devouring began!

After finishing up the houses and eating a delicious dinner of tamales and tacos, we drove around to look at Christmas lights. My sister in law gave us instructions to find what I think was the coolest house ever- it was all decked out in the characters from Disney's Cars, which is one of my absolute favourite movies. This house will definitely be one we stop by every year.
